The Four P’s of Change Management

Change management has been defined in many different ways. There have been many lengthy articles and publications written on it. However, sometimes it helps to take a simplified approach to its definition. Here we break it down to the four P’s.

Process

Change management is a process. It is not something that happens overnight. It must be carefully planned and managed along the way. This is not to suggest that the plan does not need corrections or adjustment as it unfolds. Managers must constantly keep their fingers on the progress pulse to determine where corrective action is needed.

Prepare

Change management is about preparing all stakeholders with the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are required in the new environment. This is particularly true when the change includes a behavioral or emotional component. A change strategy must include tactics for supporting for the change and developing skills through training.

People

Change management is all about the people side of transformation. A perfectly designed implementation, regardless of type, will not work if the employees are not supported throughout the process. Learn more about our LEADER Change Management Methodology.

Perform

Change management aims to increase performance. This includes both individual performance and organizational performance. Measurement strategies should be put in place before the change strategy begins to determine the overall benefits. A strong change management strategy will enable strong organizational benefits.
